British stage and screen actor LAURENCE OLIVIER (1907-1989) won a Special Academy Award for his triple effort as producer, director and actor in Henry V (1944). He won his second Oscar (for Best Actor) in 1948 for Hamlet, for which he was also nominated for the Best Director Academy Award. Olivier was also nominated for Oscars for Best Actor for Wuthering Heights (1939, the year Leigh won the Best Actress Oscar), Rebecca (1940), Richard III (1956), The Entertainer (1960), Othello (1965), Sleuth (1972) and The Boys From Brazil (1978) and nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Marathon Man (1976). In 1979, Olivier received a special Oscar for his lifetime contribution to films. As a frail beauty, British stage and screen actress VIVIEN LEIGH (1913-1967), who had been born Vivian Mary Hartley in India, appeared in only 21 films before her strenuous acting career took its toll on her health. Despite her lack of extensive film credits, Leigh won two Academy Awards for Best Actress: as Scarlett O'Hara in Gone With the Wind (1939) and as Blanche du Bois in A Streetcar Named Desire (1951).
